Volunteer

On January the 28th my classmate Ada and me went to the Yuhua Village care center to help the elderly there. I woke up at 7:30 in the morning because it’s a long way to get there from our home. Ada’s mom took us there. She chose this care center because Ada’s grandmother is one of the elderly in there.
When we got there it was almost 9o’clock. First we went to Ada’s grandmother’s room to see her after this we went to all the other rooms to see if they need any help. At first they didn’t know who we are and didn’t want were we going to do. Then we told them we were volunteers here to see if you need any help. We helped them to go to the washroom because they couldn’t do this by themselves. We also helped the Administrator to carry the tables and chairs to the lobby. When we went to the kitchen we saw they were washing the vegetables and there were many vegetables so we decided to help them wash vegetables because it was almost lunchtime and they were going to cook meals for the elderly. After washing the vegetables we went back to see the elderly if they need help. There was Kara ok in the care center and the elderly can sing whenever they want to. Some of them love to sing and they were good too. They asked us to sing with them and we had fun. The elderly were all very friendly and kind to us. Time past really fast it was 11:30 now and the elderly were going to have lunch now. Some of them couldn’t eat by themselves so Ada and me feed them their meals. We were really careful because the soup was a little hot so when that wanted to drink the soup we had to blow the soup until it was cool down. The elderly were very nice to us they talked to me a lot but unluckily I didn’t understand what she was saying. She said I’m her granddaughter and when she talked to me she was a little crying maybe something sad things remind her and in the care center there was nobody to talk to and she couldn’t release her pain.
After feeding them with their meals Ada’s mom took us outside to have lunch the lunch was delicious and we were all hungry so we ate a lot. Her mom was very nice and kept giving me dishes into my bowl. After lunch Rita called me and said she wanted to come to. So we went to pick up Rita and went back to the care center. When we got back there it was quite and most of the elderly were sleeping. At that time we didn’t have anything to do so we relax for a while. Then some of them woke up and wanted to go outside for a walk so we took them for a short walk.
After a while they were going to have dinner it was almost like lunch so we started to feed them but they were not really hungry and couldn’t eat any. Then the Administrator came and grabs their chair and was very mean to them and forced them to eat. We were surprised by how they treat them. The elderly had no choice but eat. After dinner they went to their room and do what they want they watched TV chatting with us ect. We stayed there until they were all asleep. It was a really enrich day.
I think helping old people is a really good thing. When I was young I always helped my grandmother but she passed away in 2004 so I can help more people like my grandmother. It was very meaningful to me.
In November our school Volunteer Club went to Shanxi Road because there was a charity about the people who lived in Sichuan and we needed to help them donate money. We stood there for half an hour to listen to what they said and then we went to donate money for another half hour. It is very meaningful to do somethings for them beacause they lost their homes and have nowhere to live and we should to something to help them feel warm.
On January 1st we went to help the younger student at the Teenage center on Houzai Men Bei An Men. If they had any questions they would ask you to help them solve it. They were just like my youger brothers and sisters and we were all very greatful to help them.
I learnt that volunteer is a very meaningful thing to do beacuse it can help many people when they need help you can do things for the people not only you know but also some people you don't know. I also leant how to take care fo people.

Clubs

I joined the Taekwondo Club my mom said I’m too small she wanted me to join the club and learn something to protect myself.
When I was in Middle school two of my friends and I said we would learn Taekwondo together in summer but our dream didn’t come true because we didn’t all have time. Then I came to school and I saw this club because we all didn’t know each other so I don’t know who is going to join the club. At lunchtime I went to the GCA lobby to see all the clubs then I stood at the Taekwondo Club suddenly my classmate Helen stood beside me and asked me if I want to join she told me that she had learned this for the whole summer vacation and she wanted to join the club with me. So we both went to sign up.
The club practices twice a week, which are Wednesday and Friday. Each class is 1and a half hour. This club we have to pay money because we go to a gym to practice and there are professional teachers. We have to pay 100RMB for 10 classes I think it’s not that expensive because if you go outside to learn it, it will be much more expensive.
At the first class the teacher told us to play some games to warm up. In the class there are little children and teenagers the little children are only 3 or 4 years old. They were so cute. The teachers taught us some basic moves because many of us didn’t learned this before. The teachers have a sense of humor and they told us jokes. The moves were hard for me and it hurts a lot. When I got home I was so tired and didn’t want to move. The next day I woke up I couldn’t even get off my bed because my legs hurt so much. I can only rest for one day and I have to go back training. After a few classes I got used to it, it doesn’t hurt any more. Then one class the teacher told us we have to kick something when I held the thing it was really hard and it will hurt when you kick it. At first I tried but it hurts so much the teacher told me that it wasn’t the right way to do it that’s why it hurts. He taught me the right way and it really doesn’t hurt. Finally at the very last two classes he asked us to pull our ligament. My ligament is not good and I’m really afraid of this but I had no choice. The teacher pulled my ligament until it was very straight it hurts so much that I couldn’t even say a word. After class when I began walking down the stairs I almost fell I didn’t even had energy to stand. These were the ten classes and I will keep on learning.

Although Taekwondo hurts very much but it is very useful for me. I can protect myself and get exercised. Now I’m a beginner but I think not through a long time I will take a test and be better and better.

This term I didn't go to the Taekwondo because my was finished my lessons so I started to go to the Swimming Club. I love swimming a lot. When I was young I was really afraid of water but after I leanrt swimming in Canada I love swimming and I can swim really well. We go swimming on Saturdays and we always swim for a long time.
