Last Thursday we went to Nanjing University to see an exhibition. The title of the exhibition is Wu Weishan Cultural Figurs and it's all showing sculpture of Wu Weishan. All the artworks are made by himself. The artworks are both traditional and contemporary. I think it is traditional beacuse the color of the baby looks very teaditional and people in the old times often use this material. I also think it is contemporary because it gives me a feeling of a new style.
My favourite artwork is "A Sleeping Baby" and a famous arist Wu Weishan made the artwork in 1998. He used oval-shapes to make the baby's head and nose. The baby's eyes and mouth are made of lines. The whole color of the baby is bronze because the baby is made of bronze. All we can see from the artwork is only the head of the sleeping baby with his mouth open a bit.
I think this artwork makes me feel sleepy and want to pinch his chubby cheeks. It shows me this person's demeanor and spirit. When I looked at this artwork it makes me think of a baby who went to play outside for a long time and came home very tired and fell asleep so quickly and deeply that we didn't even notice. This artwork reminds me of my niece. Once she came to my house and played with me I took her outside and after we came back she lay on my bed. Shortly after she felt asleep. I think the artist's intention is to tell and show people how lovely the baby looks when he is sleeping. He thinks the baby looks like an angel and wants him to sleep deeply.
I really think this artwork is fantastic beacuse I think the artwork represents purity and love. The angelic baby impresses many people and they won't forget it. When I looked at this artwork the first thought I head is the purity of the baby. He looks deeply asleep and was so adorable with his mouth open. I think people who sleep with their mouth open are deeply asleep. Also the baby's cheeks look so chubby and looks like an angel and angel always represents purity.
I think other people might not appreciate this artwork because other people don't know whta it is and they might think the baby is dead!!
I think the artwork is successful and I really enjoyed going there. I also met Wu Weishan ---the artist and I took a picture with him.
